Santa Luz, California
Santa Luz is a planned community of the city of San Diego, California, located in San Diego County. It is geographically located about 20 miles north-north-east of downtown San Diego, immediately north of Carmel Mountain Ranch, northwest of the city of Poway and south of Escondido.
Santaluz is located west of 4S Ranch and Rancho Peñasquitos, and south of Santa Fe Valley and Del Sur and east of Fairbanks Ranch and Rancho Santa Fe
It is an exquisitely beautiful, gated community situated on 3,800 acres of land that offers 24 hour security. It was designed with 1930s architecture in mind, so there are no sidewalks, but in there place, are meandering gravel paths. All the foliage is native to the area and 1,500 acres that surrounds the community is preserved and will be untouched land. A special touch is that all the street lights are placed facing the ground, so at night the stars shine brightly.
Willow Grove is the relatively new elementary school for Santaluz. Santa Luz is located in the Poway Unified School District for the most part because of its size shares schools with the neighboring community of Del Sur (less than a few miles east of Santa Luz).
The entire community is gated: everyone entering Santaluz will pass through the gate. The center of the community is an 11-acre village green for community gatherings, concerts-on-the-lawn all of which are part of the Santaluz Club. There is a 19,000 square foot community building (single story), including a gymnasium, a multi-purpose room, work-out facilities, pool and cafe/coffee house. Behind the community building is six tennis courts and a 3500 square foot clubhouse and private golf course designed by Rees Jones.
Santaluz offers many styles and types of homes from casitas to custom homes. The builders and home styles are as follows: rustic farmhouse-style enclaves by Baywood Homes, hacienda courtyard living by Centex Homes, Spanish and European influenced homes by Christopher Homes, casitas by Taylor Woodrow Homes, Inc., California Spanish-style homes by Western Pacific Housing and elegant ranch-style homes also by Taylor Woodrow.
Baywood built early California hacienda style enclaves (Sentinals) of three to five bedrooms and 2,175 to 2,900 sq. ft. The average size of these home-sites is 6,000 sq. ft. Centex built Country Rancheros (Haciendas Sur) on average 25,000 sq. ft. home-sites.
